Introducing the BIRA Accelerator: A Game-Changer for Biodiversity in Africa

BIRA: the first biodiversity project accelerator in Africa

Zurich, 25th September 2023 — We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Biodiversity Investments — Researcher & Accelerator (BIRA), the first Biodiversity Project Accelerator in Africa, organized by Dalberg and supported by Xilva as a key partner. This groundbreaking initiative aims to enhance biodiversity measurement and cultivate a robust pipeline of investment opportunities in Africa, addressing the challenges associated with biodiversity and ecosystems.

Xilva’s Role in the Accelerator

Xilva plays a crucial role in the BIRA Accelerator by providing support to projects in the cohort through the following activities:

1. Project Assessment with Xilva GRADE Methodology: We’ll be conducting thorough assessments of the projects in the Accelerator cohort using our Xilva GRADE methodology. This approach will help us identify what’s working well and where there’s room for improvement in each project.

2. Identifying Gaps and Prioritizing Improvements: Our assessments will allow us to work closely with project developers to pinpoint gaps and areas that need strengthening. Together, we’ll develop plans to improve project profiles and readiness for investment.

3. Guidance on Presentation and Structuring: Effective communication and structuring are essential for project success. Xilva will be offering expert guidance to project teams to help them present their offerings in a compelling way and create structures that attract potential investors and partners.

A Unique Initiative Shaping the Future of Biodiversity Protection

The BIRA Accelerator is a unique initiative that will shape the newly formed sector of biodiversity protection in Africa. Hosted by the African Leadership University and co-funded by Dalberg and FSD Africa, BIRA brings together a diverse group of partners, including CreditNature and Xilva, to develop a credible approach to accelerating biodiversity and ecosystem measurements as a core offering for investable Nature Based Solution projects.

Call for Proposals

BIRA is currently soliciting applications for its first Biodiversity Project Accelerator in Africa, which will support high-quality biodiversity projects to become investor-ready. We encourage project developers and organizations working on biodiversity and ecosystem projects in Africa to apply and be part of this groundbreaking initiative.
